Step into the timeless tradition of the classical atelier and create a portrait the way the masters did—working from life, in natural light, with a sustained, single 15 hour pose over 5 weeks of a clothed model with Phil Went.
This slower, immersive format gives artists the rare opportunity to observe deeply, refine carefully, and build a portrait step by step, allowing you to develop and push your observation skills.
Either do your own thing or take advantage of following along with Phil and have tuition in a classical layered oil portrait as he demonstrates each stage, from the preparatory drawing and transfer to a support, palette layout with a limited set of historical pigments, underpainting, refining and finishing details. Check the additional details for more information.
Who it’s for:
Artists or students with some drawing or painting experience who want to deepen their observational skills, and those that wish to experience a classical step by step approach to an oil portrait with a limited palette.
