Painting Process

My paintings are made primarily with selected historical pigments with proven longevity, light-fastness and without compromising additives such as zinc white. Materials are from premium hand made manufacturers, or mulled myself from raw pigments such as raw earths and minerals such as ochres, malachite, lapis lazuli etc with refined linseed oil. Only oils are used as a medium as solvents can reduce the strength of the oil binder.

The supports may be wood, linen or copper, and are extensively prepared according to the support for maximum adhesion and longevity. Wood and linen are sealed before applying multiple layers of gesso prior to painting. Copper supports are sanded for a mechanical bond, cleaned with alcohol and then primed with a lead white based primer which creates a chemical bond with the copper and subsequent layers of oil paint.

Once finished and fully cured, a replaceable, regalrez based varnish is applied to the painting which is then framed before attaching an RFID tag and a label with a QR code attached. The tag and label are then partially marked with a fingerprint as a signature.
